White residents react with horror when Dennis and Loretta Samuels, a Jamaican family, move into their working-class neighbourhood in 1960 London. However, next-door neighbour 11 year-old David Wiseman discovers that he and Dennis share a passion for cricket. Dennis offers to train him for the school team. David’s parents try and put an end to the relationship even though they are refugees from Nazi Germany and have suffered racial abuse. Later, David’s mother discovers that she has a passion for Dennis…
