The High Holy Days are a time of reflection and connection, reminding us of our duty to care for one another and the world around us.  It is an opportunity to invoke the Jewish values of tzedakah, giving what each of us is able to give, and of tikkun olam, repairing the world.

This is a time of renewal for our community.  While the building is our priority, we remain committed to supporting those who need our care and support.  We are able to do this with your support for the Alyth funds that are at the heart of our communal giving.  These funds enable us to support the range of needs of Alyth members of all ages, as well as projects and causes beyond our communal needs.

Details of the Clergy Jewish Participation Fund, the Community Care Fund, and the Social Justice Development Fund can be found inside.  This year we will also be supporting our Israeli movement, the IMPJ (Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism).

The community funds are a lifeline to many.  With your help we can continue to care for and sustain our members and those around us.

Thank you for being a partner in making the world a better place.

The Clergy Jewish Participation Fund ensures that all of our members are able to lead full Jewish lives through participating in programmes and activities that are run and organised by Alyth and by other external organisations, without finance being a barrier to participation.

The Clergy Jewish Participation Fund provides support for members of every age who may need financial assistance to come to our Kindergarten, to go on Alyth and other Summer schemes or Israel Tour, to attend weekends away and other Jewish community conferences and events.

The Alyth Community Care Fund supports those who need dedicated support, activities and social interactions. It also funds welfare and wellbeing activities, and provides financial support at critical moments to those who
need it most.

Community and mutual care is more needed than ever before – being able share a meal, have a chat, and see one another at services and weekly activities. With funds from the Community Care Fund we are able to offer a varied programme of social and cultural activities, transport services to bring people to and from Alyth, and that extra bit of professional help when it’s needed most.

The Social Justice Development Fund was established to express the value of tzedek (justice), supporting ongoing and new social justice projects that members of our community lead or in which we partner with other communities.

This fund is a vehicle for Alyth to address social, racial, and economic justice through our support for refugees, homelessness, the environment and the development of strong interfaith relationships locally and further afield.

New for this year’s appeal

In response to the unprecedented challenges facing Israelis, Israel’s democracy and our Progressive Judaism in Israel, we are including the IMPJ (Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism) in our High Holy Days appeal this year.

Israel stands at a dramatic juncture in the face of threatening legislative initiatives whose aim is to weaken the legal system and to endanger the checks and balances on Israeli Democracy. The proposed legal changes will affect the rights of minorities in a way that will endanger the pluralistic nature of the state and its existence as a liberal democracy that is the home of the entire Jewish people.

The Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism, and its legal and advocacy arm, the Israel Religious Action Center, have taken action on behalf of Progressive Jews, serving on the front lines of nurturing Israel as a Jewish and democratic state; protecting the rights of minorities and of our communities in Israel and the Diaspora.

Due to the anti-Reform views that have been articulated by members of the government, the IMPJ stands to lose more than $1.5 million in government funding.

The IMPJ need your support to carry them through this challenging period, and increase their growth and impact on Israeli society despite the barriers being built by our detractors.
