Alyth/Golders Green Parish Church Night Shelter

Alyth is proud to participate in the Together in Barnet Winter Shelter.  Homeless Action in Barnet refers over 60 people to the Shelter and over 2,000 bed nights were provided by 450 volunteer shifts at 14 different venues.

Following on the success of the Shelter in the past few years, Together in Barnet has been able to extend the time the Night Shelter will be running from this year, from September 2019 until June 2020, with a reduced service being offered over the Summer months from June until the end of August.

This year, our Night Shelter (which is hosted together with our friends at Golders Green Parish Church) will be running on Tuesday nights from 17 March until 2 June 2020.

Each week, different members of our incredibly committed volunteer team help us to prepare a 3 course home cooked meal; greet our guests and make them feel at home when they arrive at Golders Green Parish Church; help to serve and clear up supper; sleep over in the Church to make sure everyone has a good night’s sleep; prepare and clear up breakfast; tidy up the Church; and drive the guests’ sleeping bags on to the next venue for the Shelter.

This year we will be running for 12 weeks – this means we will need more volunteer shifts than in previous years.  In particular, we always need more volunteers for the overnight, breakfast and driving shifts.
