Chaya Silberschmidt, an impetuous, liberal-minded philosophy student, has a complex relationship with her parents, both camp survivors. While escaping from the Nazis her father had buried suitcases full of family treasures and now spends his time trying to find them. Chaya gets a part-time job as nanny for a Hassidic family whose world is completely alien to her liberated lifestyle. She becomes close to their 4 year old son, who is unable to speak. Through this relationship she learns about the lives of her own parents. A beautiful and compassionate film staring Isabella Rosselini, Maximilian Schell and Miriam Margolyes.
