Successful Jewish lawyer Walter Redlich leaves Berlin in 1930s and relocates to a farm in Kenya. His family choose to remain and just manage to escape and join him. They find it difficult to adapt. The British intern them when Hitler invades Africa and they are separated until 1945. Then they have to decide: remain in Kenya or return to Berlin? This film won an Oscar in 2003 for Best Foreign Language Film (German with English subtitles).
