Alyth Refugee Drop In

Who We Help

During 2019 we worked with 155 different clients and had overall attendances of 1316.

Our clients come from 24 different countries including Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Congo, Afghanistan and Syria.

Many religions are represented.

We have between 70-80 refugee guests at every Drop in Social Sunday. Many of these are  regular participants. 5%-10% at each Drop-in are new to the project.

In October 2019 we asked our refugees to evaluate the Drop in to gauge its impact and we found out the  following:

  • 80% of refugees travel for over an hour using at least two forms of transport. People come as far as Hackney, Kent, Stratford, Dagenham, Enfield and Lewisham.
  • This Drop in seeks to get to know our guests and to build engagement, understanding and trust.  A third of our guests have been coming for a year but typically guests stay with us for around 3-5  years.
  • Around 1 in 5 refugees also attend another drop in but for many this is the only one.
  • Half our guests attend a training course, mostly to improve their English.
  • They love the activities we put on and have given suggestions for other things. They really value  sharing ideas, meeting other people, lunch and practicing their English.

When asked to rate the Drop in many people gave it 11 out of 10 but no one rated less than 9. People commented that it was like their family.
