Alyth Refugee Drop In

Choir

Currently suspended due to Covid-19

This multi-faith, multicultural choir meets monthly and is conducted by Viv Bellos with John and Marietta Ringer accompanying on the piano, all on a voluntary basis. Lunch is served and we then rehearse, working towards a concert performance. At choir rehearsals it is heart-warming to see friendships blossom and confidence grow as everyone tries to master new songs. It encourages volunteers and refugees to do something together whilst forming a closer understanding of each other’s lives.

On 22 May 2019 the choir performed to a packed hall of over 250 people. They were accompanied by Wiyaala, a Ghanaian singer, raising funds for the Drop-in. The concert also enabled the refugees to give something back and to take more ownership of the project.

Sadly, the concert scheduled for May 2020 was cancelled but hopefully the choir will be able to come together again soon.

We welcome new members – previous experience is not required, just enthusiasm.

Wiyaala Concert May 2019

In May 2019 we held a charity concert hosted by the Drop-in choir with special guest Wiyaala, the winner of Ghana’s X Factor. All proceeds went to the Drop-in funding.
