    Organ Donation Shabbat

“You shall keep My laws, to live by them”

    (Leviticus 18:5)

This verse from the week’s portion, is the basis for the Jewish principle of Pikuach Nefesh – that the preservation of human life takes precedence over all else in Jewish tradition.  To reflect this important idea, we are calling this Shabbat “Alyth’s Organ Donation Shabbat”.  We are asking as many Alyth members as possible to ensure that they are on the NHS Organ Donor Register, and will provide the information you need to do so.

In the shiur and in the sermon that morning, Rabbi Josh will look at the Jewish attitude to organ donation, and why willingness to donate is a fulfilment of a Jewish obligation.  If you would like to share your experiences of organ donation over this Shabbat, please contact Rabbi Josh.

The morning service will be for the whole community, drawing on elements of our Classical and our Kollot services.  There will be no parallel service on this Shabbat morning.
