Welcome To Alyth

Like an extended family

Officially known as North Western Reform Synagogue, Alyth is a partnership between our 2200 adult members and 900 child members with our team of professional staff and our dynamic Clergy Team. Many members of Alyth speak of this community as being like an extended family for them. We, the members and staff of this Synagogue hope to welcome you into this family.

This is your community

Alyth includes activities for every age and interest; Jewish worship for all, Jewish learning for all, Jewish social activities for all, Jewish culture and music for all. The size of our community and our eighty years of tradition mean that we are able to welcome you to a very wide diversity of ways of enjoying the life of our community.

Here are a few events coming up this week
Saturday 20 September
09:15 – 10:15 Parallel Adult and Family Shiurim
Prepare for Glossary definitionRosh Hashanah with the first of our new parallel shiurim. The ‘adult’ shiur, to which all members are welcome, will take place with Rabbi Josh, offering text study based on the parashat hashavua (weekly portion). Running in parallel with the adult shiur, Click to contactLynette Sunderland will offer a learning session for children on the same theme.

20:00 Selichot
This year, we will begin our Selichot observance with the film “Get Low”.  Inspired by the true story of Tennessee recluse Felix "Bush" Breazeale, who planned his funeral while he was still alive, this dramatic period thriller stars Robert Duvall, Bill Murray and Sissy Spacek.  Exploring the themes of sin and atonement, this film will help us to begin our own period of reflection and repentance. Get Low is sure to both entertain you and get you thinking about the spirit of the High Holy Days season. Please join us at 20:00 for the film and a discussion, followed by refreshments and our reflective Selichot service, which will begin at 22:30.
Sunday 21 September

10:30 – 12:30 Special Pre-High Holy Day Community Morning
Join us for a special morning in advance of the High Holy Days, with sessions for members of all ages to inspire us as we prepare to enter 5775. Learn about the sounding of the Glossary definitionShofar, discover how to make the High Holy Days come alive and cook modern Glossary definitionRosh Hashanah treats. The morning will also include a reflective Selichot service for those who were unable to attend the night before, or for those who are interested in a more meditative experience, and the Big Bang Band along with Rabbi Josh will be teaching new melodies for this year's Big Bang Rosh Hashanah service.
