Like an extended family
Officially known as North Western Reform Synagogue, Alyth is a partnership between our 2200 adult members and 900 child members with our team of professional staff and our dynamic Clergy Team. Many members of Alyth speak of this community as being like an extended family for them. We, the members and staff of this Synagogue hope to welcome you into this family.
This is your community
Alyth includes activities for every age and interest; Jewish worship for all, Jewish learning for all, Jewish social activities for all, Jewish culture and music for all. The size of our community and our eighty years of tradition mean that we are able to welcome you to a very wide diversity of ways of enjoying the life of our community.
Our Clergy Team invite you to contact any one of us so that we can help you to find your feet in Alyth and to begin to feel that this is your community. Rabbi Chananya Ben Teradion said that when two people sit together and words of Torah pass between them, the presence of God rests between them also. We hope that the time that you spend in our community helps you to find the spiritual fulfilment that you may need.
The values of our community are deeply immersed in Reform Judaism: Alyth is an inclusive, egalitarian community, valuing difference. Alyth aims to bring holiness into the world by seeking meaning in our lives and a just society for all. Alyth treasures the autonomy of the individual, Jewish tradition and the insights of the wider world.
Always available to you
We aim always to be available to you, when you want to find out about a Synagogue programme, when something significant has happened in your life for which the support of a Rabbi or Cantor might be helpful or when you have an idea for how our community can develop. Through the Alyth Careline in partnership with Lynette Sunderland, Community Director, one of us is available 24 hours a day, every day.
Where are our members from?
Alyth members come from all over London. Whilst a large percentage live in the Hampstead Garden Suburb and Golders Green area; many members of our Synagogue live in Crouch End, North, West and East Finchley, Hampstead, Highgate, Kilburn, Muswell Hill, Southgate, Swiss Cottage and West Hampstead.
A great way of getting a taste of Alyth is by watching our 80th birthday video made in June 2013. Other slices of life from the Synagogue can be found on the Alyth You Tube Channel.
