Private Passions - Papercutting Workshop (8:00PM - 9:30PM)

Suzy Taylor is a papercutting artist. Her work is strongly influenced by American and European folk art and often reflects themes of nature and rural life. Suzy's papercuts are entirely hand-cut with a craft knife from a single piece of paper. Suzy sells her work all over the world and she has also recently illustrated the first Haggadah for the Reform Movement. This is a hands-on, skills learning workshop.

Gateway To Judaism (8:00PM - 9:45PM)

Alyth's introduction to Judaism course is open to all members of the Alyth community as well as those preparing for conversion. Together we approach Judaism as adults: studying and discussing to find meaning for ourselves in ancient texts and practices. Gateway runs on Wednesdays, breaking for festivals and school holidays.

Today, we will be discussing conversion (including a mock Beit Din).

From a young Israelite shepherd named David pipping the Philistine champion to the gold medal in the slingshot, to the modern Jewish domination of synchronised kvetching, here is the real history of the Olympic Games and the People of the Book (where that book is "How to Avoid Sport"). Comedian David Schneider presents some of the Jews' greatest Olympic triumphs from Talmudic gymnastics (with commentary by Rashi) to 4 x 400 metres Yiddish cursing.

Private Passions - The Jews Of Burma (8:00PM - 9:30PM)

Dr Saul Zadka, an academic and journalist, visited Burma last February. He wanted to witness the historic election campaign in that troubled country and see the marvellous temple city of Bagan. But his first port of call was the old synagogue in Central Rangoon. In this digital presentation he will shed light on one of the most isolated and mysterious communities that flourished under the British colonial rule, almost disappeared during the Japanese military occupation and survived the military regime that took power in Burma 50 years ago.
