Harry Kleiman is one of our teenage volunteers in a scheme which Alyth Social Action is running in conjunction with Jewish Care
I volunteered for six months at the Ella and Ridley Jacobs Home in Hendon. I went on Sundays for about an hour and a half and really enjoyed every minute of it. I spoke to the residents of the home and had some very interesting conversations ranging from the weather to politics. At first, it was quite challenging to strike up a conversation with a stranger on my own but after a few weeks I became more confident and the residents started to remember me. I had conversations with the same people sometimes but I tried to talk to every resident at least once. That way I could get the most out of my experience in the home and hopefully interest the residents.

Alyth Youth Singers at the Jewish Museum - January 2011 |

It was a privilege on Thursday 27th January to be present at the Holocaust Memorial Day Remembrance Event held at the newly built Jewish Museum in Camden. I was undertaking my usual duty as piano schlaper for the Alyth Youth Singers and my reward was to be present at the Event.
An old lady was one of the first of the audience to be allowed to enter the hall where the Event was to take place. She had amazing very long hair gathered in two plaits. She was concerned that she ought not to sit in a seat that might be reserved for one of the dignitaries at the Event and I assured her that the seat she had chosen was appropriate. It was close to mine.

Alyth Cyclists Raise Thousands for World Jewish Relief |

Two years ago fourteen men cycled for 75km on the Sunday in  Sukkot, the Jewish Harvest Festival, to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the foundation of North Western Reform Synagogue in Alyth Gardens, Temple Fortune. They raised nearly £3000 in sponsorship for Norwood Ravenswood.
