Book Launch: Terror, Trauma and Tragedy

Terror, Trauma and Tragedy – a new book comprising a collection of sermons and essays (including contributions from Rabbi Mark and Rabbi Josh) was launched at Alyth last week.

The book offers invaluable words of Jewish wisdom on dealing with these difficult events in our lives, some practical advice and, above all, hope.

Rabbi Mark spoke about the role of Rabbis during traumatic times, “to offer a space where congregants can voice their concerns and feel comforted by the support of others but not to give opinions, call for vengeance or even to suggest solutions.”

Rabbi Josh spoke about the fundamental ability to hope in the Jewish religion, “to believe in the possibility of something better, even when we are in despair. We need to be actively hopeful and do what we can to make the world a better place.”

The panel was chaired by Robert Weiner and, as well as Rabbis Mark and Josh, guest speakers included the book’s editors: Rabbis Jonathan Romain and David Mitchell.
